Immigration, faible revenu et inegalite des revenus au Canada : Quoi de neuf durant les annees 2000?

Abstract

Au cours des annees 1980 et des annees 1990, l'immigration etait associee a la hausse des taux de faible revenu et de l'inegalite des revenus familiaux au Canada. Durant les annees 2000, le marche du travail et le processus de selection des immigrants ont fait l'objet de changements importants. Le present document traite de l'effet direct de l'immigration sur l'evolution en matiere de faible revenu et d'inegalite des revenus familiaux au cours de la periode allant de 1995 a 2010. Le document decrit les tendances recentes des taux de faible revenu et d'inegalite des revenus chez les Canadiens de naissance ainsi que les immigrants. Au Canada, le taux de faible revenu a diminue au cours des annees 2000. Cette baisse a-t-elle ete dictee en partie par des variations des resultats economiques des immigrants en matiere de revenu? L'inegalite des revenus a augmente considerablement a la fin des annees 1990. L'immigration a-t-elle contribue a cette augmentation?
