Abstract

Les craintes du début de l’année de voir les cours du Brent dépasser durablement la barre des 120 dollars ne se sont pas matérialisées et le premier semestre 2013 a été marqué par une baisse des cours du baril de Brent de 116 à 103 dollars entre janvier et juin 2013. Ce fléchissement s’explique par plusieurs facteurs : la faiblesse de la demande en provenance des pays industriels, la montée en puissance de nouveaux gisements non conventionnels en Amérique du Nord, et la présence de capacités de production inutilisées au sein des pays de l’OPEP. Depuis le début juillet 2013, en revanche, les prix sont repartis à la hausse, sous l’effet de ruptures d’approvisionnement du côté de l’offre (Libye, Nigéria) et d’un climat politique très tendu au Proche-Orient. Fin août, la perspective de frappes militaires occidentales en Syrie et le risque de débordement du conflit sur les pays avoisinants (Iran, Irak) a fait grimper le prix du Brent, et l’incertitude se maintient.
