Pétrole : vers un prix d'équilibre ?

Abstract

Depuis le début de l’année 2009, les cours du pétrole ont témoigné d’une volatilité exacerbée. Après l’effondrement spectaculaire du prix du baril entre juillet et décembre 2008, passé de 140 à 33 dollars, la reprise a été très soutenue au premier semestre 2009, les prix remontant fortement pour avoisiner les 70 dollars le baril en septembre 2009. Cette remontée des cours s’explique par plusieurs facteurs : la réduction concertée de la production par l’OPEP pour enrayer la baisse des cours, une reprise timide de la croissance dans les pays émergents d’Asie, la faiblesse persistante du dollar, et enfin le retour de la confiance qui a permis de restaurer la liquidité sur le marché des actifs pétroliers.
