Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to assess the development status of local administrative units (LAUs) with the use of a modified quantifiable SWOT analysis based on Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The proposed method was used for assessing the socio-economic development status of municipalities located in the Pozna? district (Poland) in 2016. Based on research, four main types of development status were identified: the aggressive, competitive, conservative and defensive type. Also, the level of exogenous and endogenous socio-economic development was assessed. The study was based on statistical data from the Central Statistical Office in Poland. The method presented in this paper is of a universal nature and may be used as well for SWOT analyses of other spatial and economic units.
