The State and the Emergence of Business Education in Russia at the Turn of XIX-XX Centuries

Abstract

This paper reviews the process of forming a system of business education in pre-revolutionary Russia. Particular attention is paid to the state's role as an organizer of business education that provided institutional support for the process at the turn of XIX-XX centuries. The causes and analyzes the features of formation of higher business education in Europe as well as the use of the European experience in establishing a system of business education in Russia are revealed. Also, a range of issues, including the financing of commercial schools and education programs, the level of the teaching staff and the duration of studies in a commercial college are considered.
