Abstract

Sumarizing the benefits performance appraisal brings in the management of the human resources in organizations, the present study sugests a method for personnel performance appraisal in the health system. BARS (Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales) proves to be a method that satisfies the constrains, being objective, easy to understand and to use by unexperimented assessors (such as the clinical staff and the patients) and with good discriminative validity. Following the steps recommended in literature (Pitariu, 2000), this article present the elaboration process of a BARS for medical specialists (physicians and nurses). In the process there were 50 participants involved (physicians, nurses and patients). The results of the study were 2 BARS – one for physicians – assessing performance on 8 factors and one for nurses – assessing performance on 7 factors. Finally we recommend using the instrument in a 360 degrees feedback system and we underline the benefits it brings in the human resource management in the health system.
