경제적으로 대외의존도가 높은 우리나라는 무역구조의 변화에 따라 노동시장에 상당한 변화를 겪어왔다. 대표적으로 2000년대 이후 중국과 베트남의 급속한 경제성장으로 인한 대중국ㆍ대베트남 수출입 증가는 우리나라 산업별 고용구조를 바꿨을 뿐 아니라 근로자들의 소득과 고용안정성에 적지 않은 영향을 미쳤다. 수입경쟁심화 산업에 종사했던 근로자는 장기에 걸쳐 근로소득 증가율이 감소하고 비자발적 실직을 경험할 확률이 높아졌지만, 수출증가산업에 종사한 근로자는 동 기간에 더 큰 근로소득 증가율과 고용안정성을 누렸다.
