Abstract

Are the frameworks analysing strategic alliances satisfactory? How do the predominant economic approaches analyse this phenomenon? Are they coherent or contradictory? What evaluation can be addressed to them? The importance of the alliances phenomenon makes all these problems worthy studying. In fact, regarding the firms concerned by this phenomenon, no contest can be made that strategic alliances have become one of the major facts of the economic environment and its conceptualisation. In this paper, we review the main approaches in management and firm economics concerning this field of study, in an attempt to integrate them in a framework allowing the analysis of strategic alliances.
