Nanoteknologiastako seuraava yleiskäyttöinen teknologia? - Havaintoja Suomen näkökulmasta

Abstract

Tuskin mihinkään muuhun teknologian kehittämiseen on sijoitettu maailmanlaajuisesti niin lyhyessä ajassa yhtä paljon julkisia varoja kuin nanoteknologiaan. Nanoteknologialla tarkoitetaan yleensä toiminnallisesti uudentyyppisiin materiaaleihin ja nanomittakaavan (1-100nm) rakenteisiin perustuvien komponenttien ja laitteiden suunnittelemista sekä valmistamista erilaisiin sovelluksiin. Nanoteknologia nähdään geneerisenä, yleiskäyttöisenä teknologiana, jolla uskotaan olevan potentiaalia uudistaa useita teollisuuden aloja ja siten merkittävästi edistää eri maiden pitkän aikavälin tuottavuus- ja talouskasvua. Nanoteknologia on kuitenkin vielä elinkaarensa alkuvaiheessa. On epäselvää millä tavalla ja mihin suuntaan se kehittyy, varsinkin kaupallisesti. Suomessa satsataan myös suhteellisen paljon julkisia t&k-varoja nanoteknologiaan. Yritystoimintaa on jonkin verran, mutta kehitys on vielä vahvasti tiedevetoinen. Tiedepohjaisuus näkyy varsinkin nanoteknologiajulkaisujen voimakkaana kasvuna. Tässä työpaperissa pohditaan millä tavoilla nanoteknologia voisi kehittyä yleiskäyttöiseksi teknologiaksi, sekä minkälaisia haasteita ja mahdollisuuksia nanoteknologian kehittämiseen liittyy Suomessa teknologian siirron näkökulmasta
