Naisten ja miesten palkkaero Suomen metalliteollisuudessa

Abstract

Palkansaajien tutkimuslaitos on julkaissut erikoistutkija, VTT Juhana Vartiaisen tutkimuksen ”Naisten ja miesten palkkaero Suomen metalliteollisuudessa”. Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Työsuojelurahasto.Tutkimuksessa on analysoitu naisten ja miesten palkkaeron syitä, käyttäen esimerkkinä Suomen metalliteollisuuden työntekijöiden palkka-aineistoa vuosilta 1990–1995. Se perustuu Teollisuuden työnantajien palkka-aineistosta poimittuun otokseen. Metalliteollisuus valittiin tutkimuksen kohteeksi siksi, että sieltä oli saatavilla korkealaatuinen palkkatilasto.Naisten ja miesten palkkaero metalliteollisuudessa on vajaan viidenneksen eli noin 18 prosenttiyksikön luokkaa, eikä siinä ole ajan mittaan tapahtunut merkittäviä muutoksia. Metalliteollisuudessa sukupuolten välinen palkkaero on samaa luokkaa kuin muuallakin kansantaloudessa.Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvittämään sitä, mistä palkkaero johtuu. Vaikka tutkimus koskee vain metalliteollisuuden tuntipalkkaisia työntekijöitä, näin saadut tulokset valaisevat yleisemminkin syitä naisten ja miesten erilaiseen työmarkkina-asemaan.
