Abstract

This work investigates the determinants of the behavior on the long time of the total poverty in Venezuela during the period 1975-2000. Series of time are utilized and applies an analysis of multiple lineal regression. The empirical results indicate that an increase of the 1% in the rate of investment, a rise of 1US$ in the prices of the barrel of petroleum and an increment of Bs. 1 (old) in the price average of the American currency, will cause a reduction of the 5.05%, 2.43% and 0.06% respectively of the share of grow of the total poverty in Venezuela. Therefore, it is concluded that these variables are very important and necessary for establishing economic policies that they main is to diminish the poverty.
