Abstract

The research paper is devoted to the actual features of the “İnternet Economy”, challenges and opportunities for both the nations and individuals, emerging from the modern Internet and digital technologies [1]. It stipulates that all countries and individuals, and especially, the representatives of Y, Z, and succeeding Alpha, Beta generations [2], regardless the religion, race, ethnicity, or citizenship, can significantly benefit from the Internet Economy, and potentially fulfill all the “Maslow's Hierarchy” needs [3]. The author offers in the paper a definition of the Internet Economy and states that • Personal success in the Internet Economy assumes: the presence of a certain pack of soft and hard skills proved by the internationally recognized qualifications and certificates; readiness to take certain risks and start a journey to the “virtual world of adventures and endless opportunities”; readiness of the national government to provide institutional, legislative, juridical, consultative, financial, technical and other kinds of support to its citizens intending to start or take existing businesses into the virtual environment. • Whereas, a country’s progress heavily depends on a number of determinants including: the country’s digital transformation readiness level; the state of the public perception of the modern technological challenges; psychological readiness of people to extend or replace traditional offline activities with the new virtual. The general topic of the paper is divided into seven high-level topics and dozens of subtopics to ensure the comprehensiveness and smoothness of the desired public discussions. The author suggests that both the national economy, which is predominantly traditional, and the labour market of Azerbaijan, which basically serves the national economy, might be significantly and successfully expanded by encouraging people to join the Internet Economy. He also underlines the urgent necessity to reduce anxiety in the public perception of the modern technological reality. The main objective of the research is: to provide a full-fledged picture of the modern virtual reality and highlight the core, depth, intensity, and the scale of the global changes coupled with the impacts affecting the human life, environmental requirements, culture, economy, and social protection; to argue the necessity of “paving path” to the modern prosperity, social security, employment and happiness through the global virtual communication and intensive international collaboration. The paper also underlines the necessity of a “social contract” that might be proposed to the people of Azerbaijan by the national elites to ensure a long-term sustainable social, economic, cultural development, and comprehensive national security.
