Alcune considerazioni sulla misura di efficacia del vaccino Comirnaty della Pfizer-BioNTech

Abstract

Il primo vaccino anti Covid-19 autorizzato in Italia è quello prodotto dalla Pfizer-BioNTech, denominato Comirnaty, il cui studio clinico (Polack et al., 2020) ha valutato la sua efficacia nella misura del 95%. In questo articolo si intende spiegare a chi non è addetto ai lavori il reale significato di questa misura di efficacia e indicarne alcuni importanti limiti. In secondo luogo, si confronta tale misura con due indicatori altrettanto importanti, la cosiddetta “percentuale di riduzione del rischio” e l'indice V di Cramér, che permettono di valutare l'efficacia del vaccino da un altro punto di vista. Il fatto che queste due misure assumano nella fattispecie valori decisamente bassi sta a indicare una scarsa utilità di un'eventuale vaccinazione di massa. Infine, si fanno alcune considerazioni anche sulla valutazione della sua sicurezza del vaccino in questione.
