Abstract

While it is heavily contended that macroeconomic policies affect household welfare and several agencies collect welfare data, no formal structure has the specific task of monitoring the conditions of households under changing macroeconomic environment. This paper seeks to identify more precisely and reliably the most vulnerable groups to policy changes by focusing on MIMAP design. It reviews the existing monitoring systems for social and welfare conditions of households and their members and provides a summary of existing data regarding changes on the social and welfare conditions of poorer households. It also identifies the best estimates of welfare trends based on recently available information and recommends a reliable monitoring system that can immediately produce MIMAP information on a regular basis.
