Abstract

In 2012, there were about 4.5 million Filipinos attending private schools and an estimated 21.6 million employed by private establishments in the Philippines. Private schools and private establishments are thus strategically positioned to contribute toward the protection, promotion, and maintenance of the health of a very large number of Filipinos. The roles that these institutional units can play in the health care of the population have in fact been strengthened by government policies on school health, and on occupational safety and health. This paper examined the provision of student health services in private schools and employer-provided health-care services and benefits in private establishments using data from two recent surveys.
