Eastern Bangladesh Floods in 2024: Analysis of Immediate Damages and Recovery Efforts

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of the floods in the eastern part of Bangladesh by assessing the loss and damage incurred from 19 August 2024 to 5 September 2024. The total damage has been estimated at BDT 14,421.5 crore, equivalent to 1.8 per cent of the National Budget for FY2025. In addition, the study provides a set of recommendations for improved flood management and disaster preparedness in the future.
