América Latina y la Globalización Económica: Una Visión de Largo Plazo

Abstract

Existe cierto consenso respecto de la existencia de dos olas globalizadoras: la primera de ellas ocurrida entre 1870 y 1914 y la segunda luego de la segunda guerra mundial, más pronunciada a partir de la década de los setenta, con el quiebre del sistema de Bretton Woods. En simultáneo se discute los efectos de la globalización económica sobre América Latina, pero la mayoría de estudios hace referencia a la segunda ola, con énfasis en lo ocurrido a partir de 1990. El presente documento de trabajo tiene como objetivo explorar la globalización de la región durante la primera ola globalizadora; más aún, se busca analizar la forma como América Latina llegó al inicio de la misma. Se concluye que el atraso relativo de la región ocurrió en algún punto del siglo XVIII.
