Global Care Policy Index 2020 Country Report: Australia

Abstract

Australia has comprehensive laws and social security mechanisms to protect domestic caregivers and careworkers. However, there is a lack of formal recognition of and public information on paid domestic work. This oversight extends to national regulations on fair employment processes and decent work conditions for domestic workers. As a result, Australia ranks slightly higher on Sub-Index A than Sub-Index B. With a total of 6.55, Australia is rated as “Maturing” on the Global Care Policy Index.
