Escalar empresas en América Latina: Capacidades estratégicas para el crecimiento sostenible de emprendimientos y pymes

Abstract

El crecimiento empresarial ha sido un tema central en la literatura de emprendimiento y pequeñas empresas, pero gran parte del conocimiento disponible proviene de economías avanzadas con contextos institucionales más estables. En América Latina, el escalamiento de emprendimientos y pymes ocurre en un entorno caracterizado por informalidad, restricciones de financiamiento y brechas significativas de productividad e innovación. Este artículo propone un modelo conceptual de capacidades estratégicas para escalar empresas en la región, integrando tres cuerpos de literatura: teorías del crecimiento de la firma, enfoques de capacidades dinámicas y estudios recientes sobre ecosistemas emprendedores y digitalización en mercados emergentes. Se argumenta que el escalamiento sostenible depende de la articulación de cuatro conjuntos de capacidades: orientación estratégica al crecimiento, profesionalización organizacional, capacidades dinámicas orientadas a la digitalización y anclaje ecosistémico. El artículo revisa evidencia empírica sobre empresas de alto crecimiento en economías emergentes, discute los desafíos estructurales latinoamericanos y plantea implicancias para emprendedores, formuladores de políticas públicas y futuras líneas de investigación. El modelo resultante ofrece un marco integral para comprender y potenciar el crecimiento sostenible de pymes en la región.
