Abstract

Technological developments and digitalization have brought significant social changes to society, including trade. One type of technology implementation in terms of increasing business competition and selling products is using electronic commerce (e-commerce) to market various products or services in physical and digital forms. However, the presence of e-commerce can also impact traditional trade. This mini research aims to explain social changes to people's consumptive behavior through e-commerce culture and their impact on traditional trade. This study uses a qualitative description method by collecting various theories and related data, then analyzing and concluding them. The analysis shows that e-commerce can be a threat or an opportunity for traditional business actors. E-commerce can influence people's consumption patterns by reducing people's interest in shopping at traditional markets, increasing people's consumptive behavior, increasing market access for traditional businesses, and increasing the ability of traditional businesses to adapt to technology. Therefore, traditional business actors need to adapt to technology and take advantage of e-commerce as an opportunity to increase competitiveness and expand markets. The government also needs to regulate taxes and regulations related to e-commerce to prevent adverse impacts on traditional trade.
