Abstract

Luas wilayah administrasi Kota Palopo sekitar 247,52 kilometer persegi atau sama dengan 0,39% dari luas wilayah Propinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Dengan potensi luas wilayah seperti itu, oleh Pemerintah Kota Palopo telah membagi wilayah Kota Palopo menjadi 9 Kecamatan dan 48 Kelurahan pada tahun 2005. Wilayah Kota Palopo sebagian besar merupakan dataran rendah dengan keberadaannya di wilayah pesisir pantai. Sekitar 62,85% dari total luas daerah Kota Palopo, menunjukkan bahwa yang merupakan daerah dengan ketinggian 0 – 500 mdpl, sekitar 24,76% terletak pada ketinggian 501 – 1000 mdpl, dan selebihnya sekitar 12,39% yang terletak diatas ketinggian lebih dari 1000 mdpl.
