Abstract

Badan Wakaf Indonesia (BWI) merupakan lembaga negara indenpenden yang dibentuk berdasarkan Undang-Undang Nomor 41 Tahun 2004 tentang wakaf. Wakaf adalah salah satu ibadah yang berkaitan dengan harta seorang muslim, seperti halnya zakat, infaq dan shadaqoh. Menurut data dari Direktorat Pemberdayaan Wakaf (Direktorat Jenderal Bimbingan Masyarakat Islam, Kementerian Agama Republik Indonesia tahun 2011) bahwa di Indonesia dalam pemanfatan tanah wakaf mayoritas digunakan untuk tempat peribadahan, sebesar 43,72% digunakan untuk pembuatan masjid, 30,15% musholla, 10,59% sekolah, 8,31% sosial, 4,26% pemakaman dan 2,98% pesantren. Pemanfaatan tanah wakaf hanya terfokuskan pada hal-hal yang bersifat ibadah dan sosial, apabila penggunaan di salurkan kepada hal yang bersifat ekonomi,tentu wakaf merupakan salah satu lembaga islam yang sangat berperan penting dalam kemaslahatan umat.
