Abstract

Baitul mal berasal dari bahasa Arab yaitu Bait yang berarti rumah dan Al-mal yang berarti harta, secara etimologi Baitul Mal berarti rumah untuk mengumpulkan dan menyimpan harta. Sedangkan secara terminologi Baitul Mal wa Tamwil berarti lembaga keuangan mikro yang dioperasikan dengan prinsip bagi hasil, menumbuhkembangkan bisnis usaha mikro dalam rangka mengangkat derajat dan martabat serta membela kaum fakir dan miskin yang sumber modal utamanya berasal dari tokoh masyarakat setempat dengan berlandaskan sistem bagi hasil guna mencapai kemaslahatan.
