Abstract

Pabrik gula yang ada di Indonesia ini, khususnya yang berada di Pulau Jawa tidak terlepas dari masa dimana Indonesia dijajah oleh Pemerintah Kolonial Hindia Belanda. Pada masa penjajahan rakyat Indonesia di haruskan untuk menanam tanaman yang berasal dari luar negeri atau yang disebut dengan tanaman ekspor di tanah Indonesia seluas 20%, tanahnya untuk ditanami tanaman ekspor, seperti tebu, teh, dan kopi. Wilayah Jombang pada masa Hindia Belanda masuk Karesidenan Surabaya terletak di dataran rendah dengan tanah subur dari aliran Sungai Brantas banyak ditanami tebu dan sekaligus didirikan pabrik gula, seperti Pabrik Gula Tjoekir yang dibangun tahun 1884.
