Abstract

Buku ini menghadirkan pandangan Syaikh Yusuf tentang etika religius dalam perspektif tarekat/ tasawuf. Syaikh Yusuf Al-Makassari adalah tokoh historis, ulama, sufi, dan pejuang. Dia dikenal sebagai ulama pengembara dari satu daerah ke daerah lainnya di tanah air, dari satu negara ke negara lain, untuk berguru kepada ulama-ulama yang mumpuni. Setelah belajar agama di Makassar, kehausannya terhadap ilmu-ilmu agama dilanjutkan ke Banten dan Aceh, serta negara-negara Arab, terutama negara Hadramaut (Yaman), dan berhasil menulis puluhan karya. Syaikh Yusuf meninggal di Cape Town Afrika Selatan setelah diasingkan oleh pihak kolonial Belanda akibat dakwah dan perjuangannya bersama Sultan Banten. Selama empat tahun di Cape Town, Syaikh Yusuf berhasil membangun komunitas muslim yang solid, sehingga pemerintah Afrika Selatan
