Abstract

This commentary is a critique of the article, “The Relationship Between Faculty Diversity and Student Success in Public Community Colleges,” which appeared in the journal, Community College Journal of Research and Practice (Cross & Carman, 2022). We noticed several egregious methodological and data analytic errors that rendered the findings in the article entirely erroneous. We summarize those errors in this commentary. We originally submitted this commentary to the original journal, Community College Journal of Research and Practice (CCJRP). Though they reported no concerns about the substance of our analysis and critique, they decided against publishing our commentary there, noting that the commentary “does not align with the mission and scope of the CCJRP.” We consider this commentary to be an important part of the d the scientific discussion about the relationship between faculty diversity and graduation rates, so we offer it to readers here.
