Abstract

Dinasti Bani Umayyah didirikan oleh Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan bin Harb bin Abd Manaf yang juga menjadi khalifah pertama Bani Umayyah. Dinasti ini diambil dari Umayyah bin Abi Sufyan, seorang pemimpin Quraisy yang awalnya merupakan musuh Islam. Namun, setelah penaklukan Mekah pada tahun 630 Masehi, ia memeluk Islam dan memainkan peran penting dalam peristiwa-peristiwa awal dalam sejarah Islam. Dinasti Umayyah mengalami perluasan wilayah yang signifikan, mencakup wilayah-wilayah di Timur Tengah, Afrika Utara, dan sebagian Spanyol
