Abstract

Pada tahun 2003, Mark Zuckerberg belajar di Universitas Harvard. Setelah dicampakkan oleh pacarnya Erica Albright, Mark membuat website bernama Facemash dengan meretas database di website kampusnya. Mark kemudian mengambil foto para mahasiswa di kampusnya dan meminta pengunjung memilih yang paling menarik dari mereka di situs web yang dia buat. Namun, lalu lintas Facemash yang tinggi merusak jaringan server Harvard. Kemudian kampus bertemu dengannya dan mereka menempatkan Mark dalam masa percobaan akademik selama enam bulan. Meskipun demikian, Facemash menjadi populer dan menarik perhatian siswa lain, yaitu si kembar Winklevoss Cameron dan Tyler serta Divya Narendra. Kemudian tiga orang menawari Mark pekerjaan sebagai pemrogram di situs web yang mereka bangun bernama Harvard Connection. Situs yang mereka buat adalah jejaring sosial yang sangat eksklusif untuk semua mahasiswa Harvard dan didedikasikan untuk berkencan. Setelah mendengarkan penjelasan mereka, Mark setuju untuk bergabung dengan ketiganya. Dari situ, Mark sesekali bertemu dengan temannya Eduardo Saverin untuk membahas ide menjadikan Facebook sebagai situs jejaring sosial yang hanya cocok untuk mahasiswa Ivy League di delapan perguruan tinggi Amerika.
