Abstract

To allow authors to constructively and openly discuss issues in their manuscripts in the same journal they are published, a reform of the current publishing state is required. Renaming the ‘Letters to the Editors’ to ‘Letters to the Authors’, and removing the spacial and temporal limits of manuscript by allowing authors to comment on any paper beyond the current short postpublication delay (~ 1-3 months after publication imposed by most journals) and removing word limit (beyond 300-500 words currently imposed by most journals as well) would help improve the scientific outcome. Doing so, the need for anonymous critics would be reduced and constructive discussions and debates can be undertaken between authors and readers. It will be more rewarding for readers and authors to publish constructive, respectful and purposeful comments with their real names in the publishing journals than publishing anonymous or malicious critics on anonymous post-publication review platforms.
