Abstract

Koperasi syariah pertama kali dikenalkan oleh Robert Owen (1771-1858) merupakan seorang yang berkebangsaan Skotlandia. Setelah berkembang diberbagai negara-negara Eropa, hingga akhirnya koperasi bisa masuk di Indonesia dan berkembang sampai saat sekarang ini. Koperasi di perkenalkan di Indonesia oleh Patih R Aria Wiraatmadja di Leuwiliang Kota Porwokerto Jawa Tengah tahun 1895, bersama dengan rekan-rekanya dengan mendirikan “De Poerwokertosche Hulp-en Spaarbank der Inlandsche Hoofden” yang bertujuan menolong teman sejawatnya dan para pegawai pribumi dalam melepaskan diri dari cengkraman para pelepas uang, kemudian langkah Patih R Aria Wiraatmadja diikuti oleh gerakan Boedi Oetomo (1908), Serikat Dagang Islam (1913), Indonesische Sische Club yang kemudian berubah menjadi Persatuan bangsa Indonesia.
