Abstract

Ilmu pariwisata merupakan ilmu terapan yang memiliki permasalahan cukup kompleks, disertai dinamika perkembanganya yang sangat cepat menyesuaikan zaman. Jenis dan model pengelolaan pariwisata baru sangat cepat sekali muncul dan berkembang. Bisnis pariwisata sebagai bisnis berskala global juga membawa berbagai tantangan sosial-budaya yang harus segara dijawab. Penulis merasa bahwa berbagai problematika dalam bidang kepariwisataan tidak selamanya mampu dijawab dengan riset-riset kuantitatif. Oleh karena itu, pembahasan artikel ini difokuskan untuk mengenalkan metode kualitatif dalam riset pariwisata kepada kalangan peneliti pemula dan mahasiswa untuk menambah perbendaharaan metode serta tehnik-tehnik risetnya agar diperoleh hasil penelitian baru yang lebih mutakhir, tepat guna, serta mampu memenuhi tuntutan industri pariwisata yang semakin beragam dan kompleks permasalahanya. Tidak ada suatu negara yang maju tanpa melibatkan banyak daya serta dukungan dana untuk kegiatan penelitian. Mau atau tidak mau, riset harus menjadi ujung tombak suatu Negara guna menjawab tantangan zaman.
