Quels types de carrières filles et garçons envisagent-ils pour leur avenir ?

Abstract

Lorsque vous pensez au métier d'ingénieur, quelle image vous vient à l'esprit : celle d'un homme ou d'une femme coiffé(e) d'un casque de chantier ? Et qui imaginez-vous faire la classe à vos enfants ? Si vous répondez " un homme " à la première question et " une femme " à la seconde, c'est qu'il y a des raisons à cela. En effet, les hommes sont tout simplement plus nombreux à poursuivre une carrière dans des domaines tels que les sciences, les technologies, l'ingénierie et les mathématiques, tandis que les femmes sont pour leur part surreprésentées dans les sciences humaines et médicales. Cette ségrégation selon le sexe sur le marché du travail reste courante dans de nombreux pays. Est-elle pour autant vouée à persister ? Dans la plupart des matières principales, les filles s'en sortent à présent tout aussi bien que les garçons, et souvent mieux. Par ailleurs, les compétences dans une matière influencent les attentes des jeunes de 15 ans sur le type de carrière qu'ils envisagent. Mais est-ce vraiment toujours le cas ?
