Gobierno y eficiencia de las cajas de ahorro españolas

Abstract

El presente trabajo analiza la relación existente entre la composición y estructura de los órganos de gobierno de las cajas de ahorros españolas y su eficiencia en el año 1999. Utilizando ecuaciones tobit los resultados del estudio constatan la existencia de una relación negativa entre la participación de las administraciones públicas en el consejo de administración de las cajas y su eficiencia en costes calculada, alternativamente, a través de un modelo de frontera eficiente y de la ratio gastos de explotación entre margen ordinario. Asimismo se evidencia una relación positiva entre la participación de políticos en el consejo y la canalización de mayores recursos financieros hacia obras sociales.
