Análisis de la eficiencia técnica en explotaciones hortícolas

Abstract

La eficiencia técnica en la producción hortícola es medida a través de la estimación de una función de producción estocástica usando datos de corte transversal de 1991 provenientes del Partido de La Plata (Buenos Aires). Siguiendo a Battese y Coelli (1995), las variaciones en la eficiencia técnica a través de las unidades de producción pueden ser explicadas por un número de variables de management y por las características de la explotación. Las variables usadas para el análisis de eficiencia en este trabajo son: una variable proxy de educación del productor, una variable que indica si el productor pertenece a alguna sociedad de productores, una variable que muestra si el productor cuenta con otras actividades además de la horticultura, el tamaño de la explotación y el porcentaje de área irrigada. Los puntajes de eficiencia técnica varían de un 2 hasta un 85%. La variable proxy de educación, el tamaño de la explotación y el porcentaje de área irrigada están negativamente correlacionadas con la ineficiencia técnica, mientras que los productores que tienen otras actividades fuera de la explotación son más ineficientes.
