Diversificación productiva y el desempeño en Argentina: estudio sobre su relación a escala regional (1996-2012)

Abstract

La diversificación productiva es considerada una estrategia de desarrollo local, y sin embargo existen pocas investigaciones sobre el tema para Argentina, y menos aun considerando su vinculación con el desempeño económico regional. El objetivo del presente trabajo es describir y analizar la relación entre el grado de diversificación productiva (total e industrial) y medidas de desempeño regional (en particular el crecimiento del empleo y su estabilidad) para cada una de las provincias de Argentina, a lo largo del período 1996-2012. El propósito final es aportar información que pueda ser de utilidad para el diseño de políticas de desarrollo productivo. La metodología es de tipo descriptiva y la fuente de datos utilizada es la Base de Datos para el Análisis Dinámico del Empleo confeccionada por el Ministerio de Trabajo, Empleo y Seguridad Social de la Nación. Los resultados muestran que las provincias poseen diversas trayectorias productivas. Por lo general se encuentra un vínculo positivo entre diversidad industrial y crecimiento del empleo manufacturero, excepto en aquellas en las que se ha implementado un régimen de promoción industrial. Por otro lado, se observa una relación positiva entre la diversidad productiva y la estabilidad del empleo, acorde con lo que la literatura indica.
