Mejorar el desempeño innovando y exportando: evidencia en empresas industriales argentinas

Abstract

El objetivo general del trabajo aquí presentado fue analizar las decisiones de innovar y exportar en empresas industriales argentinas, así como determinar el efecto de estas sobre su competitividad. Se contrastaron empíricamente las hipótesis de aprender exportando y de autoselección, ampliamente discutidas en la literatura, para explicar el comportamiento innovador y exportador de las empresas. El diseño de la investigación fue de tipo explicativo y los efectos de interés fueron estimados mediante un modelo Logit. La muestra se compuso de 315 PYME industriales encuestadas en 2013, en el Partido de General Pueyrredon (Argentina), seleccionadas mediante una estratificación por rama de actividad y con información para el período 2008-2013. Los resultados permitieron validar las hipótesis de autoselección, de aprendizaje obtenido al exportar y del efecto conjunto de innovar y exportar sobre el desempeño competitivo de estas PYME. Asimismo, se encontró evidencia de que la inversión y el gasto por parte de ellas en actividades novedosas fortalecen la innovación y que los programas implementados por el Estado son fundamentales para las exportaciones y el buen desempeño de las PYME; así también se encontraron diferencias sectoriales.
