El desafío de generar estadísticas económicas y sociales en el contexto del COVID-19

Abstract

En lo que va del año, mucho se ha escrito ya acerca del impacto del COVID-19 en la economía mundial. Partiendo del planteo del trade-off entre la reducción de la movilidad de las personas y la propagación de la enfermedad, se han identificado y comenzado a analizar los efectos que producirían las medidas de confinamiento y distanciamiento social en el sistema económico mundial, básicamente a través de la contracción de los niveles de empleo y producto. En ese contexto de análisis y estudios de impacto, resulta pertinente hacer lo propio con relación al funcionamiento del sistema estadístico, en tanto herramienta imprescindible para analizar los fenómenos económicos y sociales desde diversas aristas, como la estructura, la intensidad y la evolución de los mismos. Las restricciones a la actividad económica en el contexto del aislamiento social, preventivo y obligatorio afectan el desarrollo de la labor estadística.
