Crecimiento económico, desigualdad y pobreza en China. Análisis del proceso de apertura 1978-2008

Abstract

En diciembre de 1978 China inicia el proceso de apertura de su economía. El mismo se llevara delante de manera gradual a través de diferentes estrategias y no sin sobresaltos. El PBI per cápita aumenta 1.269% entre 1978 y 2008, y la pobreza se reduce de más del 75% de la población total a menos del 15%, mientras que la desigualdad medida por el índice de Gini aumenta de 28,60% a más del 40%. Las reformas orientadas al sector rural serán cruciales para la disminución de la pobreza y la lucha contra la desigualdad, en tanto que las reformas llevadas adelante en el sector de empresas estatales y el mercado laboral con el objetivo de ingresar a la OMC potencian el crecimiento pero traerán aparejadas el surgimiento del fenómeno de desempleo y pobreza urbana al tiempo que aumentan la desigualdad.
