Discussion of Maternal Stress During Pediatric Primary Care Visits

Abstract

Maternal stress interferes with mothers’ ability to parent and has a negative impact on the physical and mental health of children. Pediatric primary care providers often fear that mothers will react negatively to discussion of their own emotional problems, and therefore, do not address maternal stress.
