New Security Challenges for Germany – A Public Finance Perspective

Author

Listed:
  • Kai A. Konrad
  • Marcel Thum

Abstract

The authors address the challenges of the new security situation for Germany in light of current geopolitical conflicts and the potential weakening of the security guarantees of the US for Europe. The article challenges the assumption that the solution to the problem is simply more money and more soldiers. Rather, the focus should be on structural reforms at the European level in the areas of procurement, defense organization, and industrial policy in the European defense industry.
