Competencia imperfecta y discriminación de precios en los mercados de exportación: el caso del sector de pavimentos cerámicos

Abstract

In this paper recent literature on industrial organization is applied to the problem of fixing export prices in a firm which operates in segmented markets. A panel data analysis carried out for the main ceramic pavement products and markets over the period 1988:3-1992:4, shows consistent evidence of price adjustments when exchange rates are modified in a given market. This reveals the existence of variable markups in these markets, even though a systematic presence of price discrimination among all considered countries is not detected. Este trabajo es una aplicación de la nueva literatura de la organización industrial al problema de la fijación de precios de exportación por una empresa que opera en mercados segmentados. Un análisis de datos de panel para los principales productos y mercados del sector de pavimentos cerámicos durante el período 1988:3 a 1992:4, aporta evidencia consistente con ajustes de precios ante las modificaciones de tipo de cambio en algún destino concreto, 10 que revela la existencia para estos mercados de markups variables, aunque no se detecta la presencia sistemática de discriminación de precios ex-ante entre todos los países considerados.
