Factores determinantes de la innovación en las empresas de la Comunidad Valenciana

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find out the determinant factors of innovation. In order to do so, microeconomic data from a sample of 2000 Valencian firms in the year 1992 is used. Starting from Schumpeter's hypothesis on the role of firm's size in the innovation process, it is shown that small firms with high demand growth and of recent creation, as well as medium sized firms located in sectors with higher technological opportunities, are the firms most likely to innovate. El objetivo básico de este trabajo es analizar cuáles son los factores determinantes de la innovación. Para ello se utilizan datos microeconómicos de una muestra de más de 2.000 empresas de la Comunidad Valenciana para el año 1992. A partir de las hipótesis de Schumpeter sobre el papel del tamaño de la empresa en el proceso innovador, se observa que las empresas de tamaño pequeño, con mayor crecimiento de la demanda y de reciente creación, junto con las empresas medianas emplazadas en sectores con mayor oportunidad tecnológica, son las que tienen una mayor probabilidad de innovar.
