Abstract

Medien spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Meinungsbildung in der Gesellschaft, indem sie die Aufmerksamkeit zu ausgewa¨hlten Themen fo¨rdern und diese der Bevo¨lkerung na¨herbringen. Dies gilt besonders fu¨r Bereiche, mit denen ein Großteil der Bevo¨lkerung ansonsten keine Beru¨hrungs- punkte hat, wie etwa der Nanotechnologie. Die Studie zu ausgewa¨hlten Printmedien in O¨sterreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz zeigt, dass die Berichterstattung in den Ressorts Politik und Wirtschaft keine herausragende Rolle spielt. Nanotechnologie war vorwiegend Thema der klassischen Wis- senschaftsberichterstattung. Dabei standen im untersuchten Zeitraum 2000 bis 2009 eindeutig der Nutzen und die Chancen der Nanotechnologie gegenu¨ber einer risikozentrierten, kontroversen Be- richterstattung im Fokus der medialen Thematisierung in Deutschland, O¨sterreich und der Schweiz.
