Abstract

A deep revision of the statistical and methodological system of the survey on the Italian retail trade firms has been undertaken during 2000. This was due to the consideration that reliability and, consequently, the value of the information inferred from a survey depend on the correctness of the procedures followed to collect and process data. The aim of the following is to illustrate the stages of this revision, highlighting both the results achieved and the innovations they led to. Moreover, this work aims to be the starting point of a deeper thinking on future of the survey, by presenting suggestions on how to better satisfy the need for informations on the retail trade sector and, more in general, how to improve the analysis of qualitative results.
