Abstract

This report provides a workplace-level study of the 'twin transition' in the agriculture sector, through an in-depth case study of SAMA 2.0, a satellite-based precision-agriculture platform for rice production in the Guadalquivir marshes (Seville, Spain), developed through a collaboration between the University of Seville, a private technology provider and the Federación de Arroceros de Sevilla. Drawing on eight semi-structured interviews and contextualised with EU-wide worker-survey data, it depicts a sector where basic digital tools are now generalised but advanced, sector-specific technologies remain incipient. The clearest synergy runs from greening to digitalisation: producers' voluntary move to integrated production drove a cumulative digitisation of administrative work. The converse effect—precision farming reducing water, fertiliser and pesticide use—is promising but, given the tool's early adoption phase, remains to be demonstrated. A collaborative governance model linking researchers, producers and public funding emerges as the key enabling factor.
