Abstract

This article aims to analyze the evolution of the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the municipalities belonging to the Territory South Coast in the state of Bahia, in order to verify whether the inclusion in public programs of the territorial approach use is providing a greater rural development. For the analysis of data on geographic, demographic and socioeconomic, we used the statistical-descriptive method and comparative analysis. The results show that the Territory South Coast, markedly rural profile, maintained demographic characteristics that hampered territorial cohesion with a view to building a project that would overcome the rural-urban dichotomy. Their socioeconomic conditions showed improvement in poverty indicators, for example, but the territory still can not be classified as high development.
