Abstract

A agricultura no Brasil é, historicamente, umas das principais bases da economia do país, desde os primórdios da colonização até o século XXI. No Nordeste brasileiro, a agricultura tem papel de destaque na economia regional, sendo o objetivo deste estudo avaliar a situação recente da agricultura nordestina com o intuito de identificar limitações e oportunidades ao seu desenvolvimento e debater propostas de políticas públicas que possam contribuir para a ampliação da produção agrícola regional. Vários fatores são frequentemente apontados como potenciais entraves ao desenvolvimento da agricultura nordestina, entre eles questões ambientais, deficiência logística, atraso tecnológico, falta de crédito, falta de assistência técnica, entre outros. No geral, constata-se a baixa produtividade atual da maioria das cadeias produtivas componentes da agricultura nordestina. Entre as causas desse cenário incluem-se questões como uma crise de investimentos e a dificuldade dos produtores de intensificar seus sistemas produtivos. Palavras-chave: agricultura; região Nordeste; desenvolvimento. ABSTRACTi Farming in Brazil is historically one of the main bases of the country?s economy. In northeastern Brazil, agriculture has an important role in the regional economy, with the aim of this study to evaluate the recent situation of agriculture in the Northeastern region in order to identify constraints and opportunities for development and discuss public policy proposals that can contribute to the expansion of regional agricultural production. Several factors are often referred as potential barriers to the development of agriculture in this region, including environmental issues, disability in logistics, technological backwardness, lack of credit, lack of technical assistance, among others. Overall, most agricultural production activities in the Northeast has low yield outcomes, among the causes of this scenario includes issues such as a crisis of investment and the difficulty of producers to intensify their production systems.
