Abstract

In a scenario of constant changes in the social security system, and motivated aboveall by deep transformations in the labor market, in familial and demographicstructures, as well as in the economy itself, private pensions assume an increasingrelevance. The private offer of retirement and pension plans is not new in our country. However, it was mainly after the regulation of the sector that it gained greaterrepresentation in the national economy. In the last decade, the Brazilian socialsecurity system was reformed (Constitutional Amendment nº. 20) and as aconsequence of this reform, the private pension system gained a new legal apparatus. The present study describes the evolution of the private regime, vis-à-vis thechanges in the pertinent legislation, in addition to showing an overview of the sector,in aggregated numbers.
