Converting military facilities: shared responsibilities and the need for planning

Abstract

Working paper on employment implications for military personnel, of the conversion of military and defence-related industries and enterprises as well as military bases to non-military use (disarmament) in selected OECD countries - examines geographic distribution of the defence industry, role of central government, regional government and local government in the conversion process, employees attitudes, trade union attitudes and management attitudes towards conversion, etc.; includes case studies of base closures in Sweden and the USA.
