Abstract

Este documento trata de mostrar en la primera sección algunas características del Sector Informal de Guatemala, en el cual se encuentra la mayoría de población de menores ingresos, incluyendo los propietarios de microempresas y de algunas pequeñas empresas. La segunda sección hace referencia a las Microfinanzas en Guatemala, proveyendo un breve análisis financiero de los principales intermediarios que participan en el sector. En la tercera sección se considera la poca o inexistente regulación para el sector. La cuarta sección considera los resultados y las experiencias en Microfinanzas de Génesis Empresarial, especialmente otorgando créditos, asistencia técnica y administrativa a las microempresas; y crédito, organización comunitaria y asistencia a proyectos deComunidades Rurales.
